At least 10 people were killed and 15 others were wounded, some of them seriously, after a boiler at Vedanta Power Plant in Sakti District of Chhattisgarh, the police said on Tuesday.
Following the incident that reportedly took place in the afternoon, police and emergency rescue teams, including ambulances, were rushed to the spot and the injured were shifted to hospital for medical treatment.

“Nine people died, and 15 were injured in a boiler blast at Vedanta Power Plant in Singhi Tarai area of Sakti district. The injured have been taken to the hospital in Raigarh,” Sakti district SP Praful Thakur said.
Another injured succumbed to his injuries during the treatment, taking the death toll to 10.
Mahesh Sharma, SDM Raigarh, said that an investigation is being conducted into the incident.
“A heartbreaking incident has taken place at the Vedanta Power plant today in which some workers have been injured, and their treatment is underway. Our investigation is ongoing,” he said.
CM Vishnu Deo Sai expresses condolences, promises impartial probe
Reacting to the incident, state Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said that the horrific accident caused by a boiler explosion at the ‘Vedanta Power Plant’ located in Singhtirai in Sakti district is extremely distressing and heart-wrenching.
“The news of the demise and injury of some workers in this accident is profoundly agonizing. My deepest condolences are with the bereaved families. I pray to God to grant place at His divine feet to the departed souls and provide the families with the strength to bear this unbearable sorrow,” he wrote on X.
He further stated that the district administration is present at the scene, and relief and rescue operations are underway at a rapid pace.
“Necessary directives have been issued for the better treatment of the injured. I pray to God that all individuals injured in this accident recover their health swiftly,” CM Sai said.
He further added, “A thorough and impartial investigation of the incident will be ensured. Whosoever is found guilty in this matter will face the strictest possible action.”
Senior Congress leader and former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister, Bhupesh Baghel said that the news of the boiler blast is “extremely heartbreaking”.
Baghel urged the state government to make proper arrangements for the treatment of the injured and demanded appropriate compensation for the victims.
“I request the government and administration to make arrangements not only for appropriate compensation for the victims but also for the proper treatment of all the injured,” the Congress leader said.
Vedanta says incident being investigated
Following the incident, a spokesperson from the Vedanta power plant said that the incident occurred at one of the boiler units at Singhitarai plant.
“An unfortunate incident occurred at one of the boiler units at our Singhitarai plant on the afternoon of 14 April 2026, involving personnel from our sub-contractor, NGSL, which operates and maintains the unit,” the statement read.
It further added that the priority is to ensure the best possible medical assistance to all those injured. “We are extending full support to the injured and are closely coordinating with medical teams and local authorities,” it said.
The spokesperson further added that details were being ascertained and a thorough investigation has been initiated in coordination with relevant authorities.
