At least seven persons travelling in a mini-truck were killed on the National Highway 16 near Neulpur Chowk under Dharmasala police station in Jajpur district during wee hours on Saturday as the ill-fated vehicle rammed into an ore-laden stationary truck.

The unauthorized parking of the truck which had developed a technical snag three days back resulted in the fatal road accident, police said.

The identity of the deceased persons is yet to be established. However, they are being believed to be native of West Bengal as the ill-fated mini-truck had Bengal registration number.

The impact of the accident was so severe that the police had to press into service gas cutters to extricate the bodies from the mangled vehicle.

Low visibility caused by fog and smog might have caused the road accident. This apart, the driver of the vehicle might have possibly dozed off leading to the mishap.
