A day after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed the setting up of detention centres for foreign infiltrators detected during checking, BJP’s Lucknow president Anand Dwivedi on Thursday claimed that over 50,000 Bangladeshis and Rohingyas are staying illegally in Lucknow.
During a survey in 2019, the UP government admitted that there are around one million foreign infiltrators in the state, particularly in Noida, Ghaziabad, and Lucknow.

However, the BJP claimed that its workers in Lucknow have identified 50,000 Bangladeshis and Rohingyas. Ward-level teams have been formed across the city. These teams have begun checking on tenants and slum dwellers.
The party’s Lucknow city president, Dwivedi, stated here that no ineligible person will be allowed to be added to the voter list.
Dwivedi issued strict instructions to party workers regarding the identification and monitoring of illegal immigrants in the city during the Special Revision of Voter Lists (SIR). He clearly stated that under no circumstances should the names of any illegal immigrants, including Bangladeshis and Rohingyas, be added to the voter list. “Identify them and inform the administration,” he demanded.
Special teams have been formed in each ward, conducting continuous surveys in slums and tenant settlements. The teams are identifying people who have immigrated from other states or countries and are living without documents and notifying the administration.

The BJP has also warned locals that sheltering illegal residents or helping them obtain documents is a crime. Party workers are reporting such cases to the administration so that legal action can be taken.
Dwivedi said a thorough check of all identification documents, including Aadhaar cards, voter ID cards, and ration cards, is essential. Illegal immigrants should also be questioned about their local addresses, employment, and the reasons for their visit to Lucknow.
He stated that written letters will be sent to the relevant authorities for verification, and the process will be continuously monitored.
