Forty-eight students of a government school fell ill after consuming iron tablets in Uttarakhand’s Nainital. The students were admitted at Sushila Tiwari government hospital in Haldwani on Monday night.

Many students of the government higher secondary school at Kakodagaza, located in a remote part of Nainital district, complained of stomach ache, nausea and vomiting, after taking the iron tablets on Monday. The students were provided with primary medical care at the Community Health Centre near the village and moved to Haldwani for advanced medical care due to apprehension from parents.

Kumoan Commissioner Rajeev Rautela visited the Sushila Tiwari Hospital on Tuesday and inquired about the health of the students. Rautela directed the doctors to conduct counselling of the students and discharge those who were normal.

After consuming the iron tablets, five-six students complained of declining health. As Kakodagaza is located about 55 km from Haldwani, many parents decided not to take any chance and take their wards to Haldwani.

Kumoan Commissioner Rajeev Rautela said, “We are sending the sample of the tablets for test.” The condition of the students is now stable.
