Four heavily armed Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists were killed on Monday in a gunfight with the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district, police said.

Three Army jawans and a policeman sustained injuries during the encounter and they have been admitted to the hospital, police said.

“Four terrorists have been eliminated in Pulwama operation,” Srinagar-based defence spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia said.

On a credible input, a cordon and search operation was launched at Lassipora area in Pulwama, by the Army, CRPF and Police.

“When challenged, the militants opened fire on the security forces triggering the gunfight,” the police said.

The identity of the slain terrorists was being ascertained. The police also recovered weapons and warlike stores from the victims.

It was a clean operation and no collateral damage happened during the encounter, a police officer said.

The Special Cell of Delhi police picked up a wanted Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorist, Faiyaz Ahmad Lone, from Srinagar. He was carrying a cash reward of Rs.2 lakh.

Meanwhile, a civilian was injured when Pakistani troops indiscriminately shelled the Indian villages along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch district early this morning.

The injured man has been identified, Mohammad Sharief, a resident of Guntrian village in Mendhar.

Army spokesman, Lt. Colonel Devender Anand, said that the Pakistani troops were targeting the Shahpur and Kerni sectors of Poonch with mortars and small arms since 7.45 am. The Indian Army is retaliating befittingly, he said.

The Pakistani Army had on Sunday too indulged in unprovoked shelling in the Nowshera sector of the Rajouri district.

Earlier on Sunday, a security force personnel was injured in a grenade attack by militants in Pulwama town. The jawan suffered minor injuries due to the grenade blast.
