Reacting to the 2G verdict, firebrand BJP leader Subramanian Swamy, who exposed the alleged multi-crore spectrum allocation scam, said the judgment was not a “setback” but just an “aberration” as the law officers investigating the case were “not serious”.

Addressing a press conference, Swamy mocked the Congress and DMK celebrations upon the acquittal of all accused including former telecom minister A Raja and DMK MP Kanimozhi and said that the case was not over yet.

“This (verdict) is not a setback at all, it’s an aberration because the law officers (investigating the case) were not serious about fighting corruption,” Swamy told the media here.

Swamy warned the Narendra Modi government to crackdown on the corrupt otherwise the BJP will have to pay an electoral price in the 2019 General elections.

“I hope the PM takes lesson from this. We must now fight corruption on war footing. Modi must set up war like council to fight corruption. There are many officers who are serious about fighting corruption,” Swamy said.

“There are people in my party who are not too keen on fighting corruption… Similarly, there are officers in the finance ministry who are corrupt and still loyal to previous government. Finance ministry needs a purge,” Swamy said.

Earlier in the day, Swamy had said that the government must immediately file an appeal against the acquittal of all accused in the nearly decade old case.

A special CBI court on Thursday acquitted all the accused in the 2G scam case, which had rocked the Manmohan Singh-led UPA-II regime.

The alleged scam on the issuance of licences and allocation of 2G spectrum by the Department of Telecom occurred during the Congress-led UPA government’s first tenure in 2008 but was widely reported in 2010 following a report by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG).
