The topic of the lecture was ‘The Relevance of Swami Vivekananda’s Philosophy in Today’s Youth’ and was delivered by Tarun Goswami, noted speaker on Swamiji’s life and works.
The presence and cooperation of Dr Bhaskar Mahanayak, principal of Vivekananda College Thakurpukur, added prestige to the occasion.
The programme commenced with a symbolic eco-conscious gesture of watering a sapling. This was followed by a soulful Rabindra Sangeet sung by Prof. Paromita Mukherjee, assistant professor of New Alipore College. Neeta Sarkar, associate Prof. and head of the Department of English, New Alipore College, delivered the welcome address.
The keynote speaker explained how Vivekananda’s messages are still relevant and help to build the moral fabric of modern students. In an era dominated by technology and the internet, Swamiji’s blending of the Western intellectual progress with the rich cultural heritage of the East is the need of the hour.
The lecture gained deeper meaning and impact through the interactive discussion involving the faculty members of both colleges.
