Wonder Woman fame actor Gal Gadot will play the titular role in historical thriller Irena Sendler, based on the Polish heroine who saved thousands of Jewish children during the Holocaust.

Irena Sendler will be Gadot’s maiden production under the newly formed production house Pilot Wave, in which she is partners with husband Jaron Vasarno.

The film will tell the story of a defiant Irena’s stand against Nazi occupation of Poland, by saving 2500 Jewish children from the Warsaw ghetto. She was later arrested by the Nazi secret police, Gestapo, in 1943 and tortured but never revealed any information about the children.

The 34-year-old shared the news on her official Instagram handle. She wrote, ” Pilot Wave is taking off! I’m so excited this is finally out. @jaronvarsano and I have been working on this for quite some time and I just CAN’T wait to bring to life all the amazing stories we’re working on with all of our wonderfully talented partners.”

“As producers, we want to help bring stories that have inspired us to life, Pilot Wave will create content that promotes the perspectives and experiences of unique people and produce impactful stories aimed at igniting the imagination,” she added.

Gadot is also part of Kenneth Branagh’s Death on the Nile as Linnet Ridgeway-Doyle in a sequel to Murder on the Orient Express. She is also part of Netflix’s Red Notice with Dwayne Johnson and Ryan Reynolds.
