The official trailer of the much-awaited film, Thackarey, based on the life of Shiv Sena supremo late Balasaheb Thackeray, is finally here. The biopic will reveal aspects of the life of Shiv Sena leader who ruled over Maharashtra for years.

Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui is essaying the role of the powerful political figure. And as the trailer suggests, the actor has got into the skin of the character.

On 26 December, the makers released the first trailer of the film, which has been written by Shiv Sena leader and Member of Parliament Sanjay Raut.

Nawazuddin wrote on Twitter, “Unfolding the real story of Balasaheb Thackeray’s courage, wisdom & indomitable truth. The tiger who was known for fearing none! #Thackeray trailer out NOW!”

However, this film will mark the first part of Thackarey’s biopic since a sequel has already been planned.

Talking about making the sequel, Sanjay Raut had earlier said, “We can’t sum up his life in one film. So, we are planning to make another part of his biopic as its sequel and we have started working on that aspect as well.

“Working with Balasaheb (Thackeray) was my dream. I have started visualising this new dream so that I can revisit my fond memories with him. I always tell that I can’t live without him and through this film, I will be able to fulfil my wish.”

Speaking about casting Nawazuddin for the lead role, Raut said, “The decision was completely mine and I never discussed it with anyone else. When I thought that Nawazuddin can play role of Balasaheb that time, I started discussing with him about this film.”

“When I told him that you are going to play the role of Balasaheb in a film that time, he was surprised for a minute but within three minutes, he agreed to be part of the film. He has done a really great job in the film and the audience will realise that fact when they watch the film,” he added.

Directed by Abhijit Panse, Thackeray will be released in Hindi, Marathi, and English languages on 23 January 2019.
