Malayalam superstar Mammootty turned 74 on September 7, and his longtime friend and colleague Mohanlal made sure the celebration reached millions of fans in a very unique way.

On the latest episode of ‘Bigg Boss Malayalam’, which aired on Sunday, viewers noticed that Mohanlal was wearing a striking, colourful shirt.

At first glance, it just looked like a bold fashion choice. But a closer look revealed something very special. The shirt was covered in pictures of Mammootty taken through different stages of his career.

The tribute did not stop there. Among the many pictures printed on the shirt, there was even a throwback photo of Mohanlal himself with Mammootty.

At the end of the episode, Mohanlal addressed his friend directly with a heartfelt message. He said, “Dear Mammukka, I wish you a happy birthday on behalf of me, the Asianet team and the Bigg Boss team.”

Mammootty and Mohanlal have shared a bond for decades, both as colleagues and as friends. Together, they represent the golden era of Malayalam films and continue to inspire younger generations of actors.

Mammootty’s career itself is nothing short of extraordinary. With more than 400 films in his name, he has been the face of Malayalam cinema for over five decades. Though primarily a Malayalam actor, he has also appeared in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, and even English-language films.

His performances have earned him some of the biggest honours in Indian cinema. He has won three National Film Awards, eleven Kerala State Film Awards, fifteen Filmfare Awards South, and many other recognitions.

In 1998, the Government of India recognised his contribution to cinema with the Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilian award in the country. More recently, in 2022, he was honoured with the Kerala Prabha Award by the state government.
