The buzz in the South film industry is getting louder by the day. Whispers from inside the production circle suggest that Malayalam cinema icon Mohanlal is all ready to step into the world of Rajinikanth in highly awaited sequel, ‘Jailer 2’, and the excitement is already sky-high.
According to people close to the project, Mohanlal is likely to begin shooting for the film around December 2. While the team has not officially confirmed his dates, sources reveal that his first schedule will last just a couple of days.

After this quick stint, the star is said to resume his ongoing Malayalam commitments, only to return to the ‘Jailer 2’ set for a longer schedule between December 21 and 24.
The film, directed by Nelson, has already grabbed national attention. And now, the rumor mill is churning again, this time with talk of Vijay Sethupathi quietly joining the shoot in Goa. Insiders claim that some of his scenes have already been filmed. But once again, there is ‘no official announcement’ yet.
Rajinikanth himself had hinted earlier this year that the shooting would extend till December. Speaking to reporters in May, the superstar casually mentioned, “The shoot of ‘Jailer 2’ is going well. It will stretch till December.”
The expectations surrounding ‘Jailer 2’ were bound to be huge. After all, the first part was nothing short of a phenomenon. The action entertainer smashed box office records and collected around ₹650 crore worldwide, turning into one of the biggest successes of the year.
The team behind the sequel kicked off filming earlier this year in Chennai. Sun Pictures, the production house, officially announced the shoot commencement on March 10, instantly sparking massive excitement. A teaser released later by the makers only added fuel to the fire.
Adding to the anticipation was actress Ramya Krishnan’s Instagram story from her first day on set at Attappadi, Kerala. Marking 26 years of her iconic film ‘Padayappa’, she revealed she had begun filming for ‘Jailer 2’. Ramya reprises her role as Viji, the wife of Rajinikanth’s character Muthuvel Pandian.
Sources also suggest that actress Mirnaa, who plays Swetha Pandian, Rajinikanth’s daughter-in-law in the story, will have an even stronger presence in the sequel.
And of course, there is Anirudh Ravichander, the man whose music helped elevate ‘Jailer’ into a mass spectacle. He is returning as the composer for ‘Jailer 2’.
