“I am heartbroken,” says director Sanal Kumar Sasidharan

Filmmaker Sanal Kumar Sasidharan, who directed ‘Chola’, shared an emotional note mourning Akhil’s death. He said it was impossible for him to accept that Akhil would choose to end his life.

Sanal spoke about Akhil’s journey with deep respect. He reminded everyone that Akhil had fought poverty to enter cinema. His role in ‘Chola’ was meant to open many doors. Sadly, the attention and opportunities that were expected never truly came.

“I can’t believe this,” Sanal wrote urging Akhil’s close friends to look deeper into what might have driven him to take such a drastic step.

Support from co-stars and the film fraternity

Akhil Viswanath: From child actor to festival films

Akhil’s acting journey began early. While still in high school, he won the state television award for Best Child Actor for a telefilm. It was a sign of things to come.

Years later, while working at a mobile phone shop, life took a turn. He was selected for ‘Chola’, a film that would travel the world. Starring Nimisha Sajayan and Joju George, the film won praise at international festivals including Venice, Geneva, and Tokyo.

Akhil later appeared in ‘Operation Java’. He was also preparing for a new role in a film titled OTT, hoping for a fresh chapter.
