The second season of the critically-acclaimed and highly awaited Netflix original series Sacred Games is set to premiere on August 15, the streaming service announced on Tuesday.

The official Twitter account of Netflix India shared the news along with the trailer of the series and captioned it with power-packed dialogues from the upcoming season.

“The game’s bigger, the stakes are higher, and the players are ready. ‘Sacred Games 2’ premieres 15 August, only on Netflix,” the description of the 2.10 minute-long video on YouTube read.

Saif Ali Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui will reprise their parts as Sartaj Singh and Ganesh Gaitonde and the new season will see Pankaj Tripathi in a full-fledged role as the mysterious Guruji, the third father that Gaitonde mentioned in season one.

The trailer showcases no Kukoo (Kubra Sait), who was one of the lead attractions of season one and killed in the end. However, the latest venture marks the entry of two super talented actors Ranveer Shorey and Kalki Koechlin into the game.

Ranvir Shorey seems to appear as a cop accompanying Saif Ali Khan’s Sartaj, replacing Jitendra Joshi’s loyal Katekar. On the contrary, the trailer leaves Kalki’s character to the imagination of the viewers and prepares us for bewilderment with the release of episodes.

The premise of the trailer suggests some serious revelations on the way. The background score hits the chord most aptly with the aura.

While the portions with Saif have been directed by the new addition Masaan fame Neeraj Ghaywan, the scenes featuring Nawaz are in the hands of fierce Anurag Kashyap like season one.

Vikramaditya Motwane and Varun Grover are back in the crew as the showrunner and the lead writer, respectively.

The first season of the series, based on Vikram Chandra’s award-winning book with the same name, premiered last year and amassed seemingly great critical appreciations and youth engagement. The series trended for months on social networking sites.
