Priyanka Chopra Jonas has been a familiar face in Hollywood for almost ten years now. But the global star says the road has never been simple. In a recent chat with IANS, Priyanka spoke about the confusion, risks and constant reinvention that shaped her life between Mumbai and Los Angeles.
A career without a map
Priyanka admitted that when she first stepped into Hollywood, she didn’t really know what came next. There was no guidebook, no formula and no superstar from India she could copy.

“There were very few examples of Indian actors working internationally,” she said. “So everything was just trial and error. I made mistakes. Some good, some not so good, and that’s part of starting over.”
For an actor who already ruled Bollywood, beginning again in a completely new industry was a huge challenge. Priyanka says the only way she survived was by learning on the go.
Holding on to herself
When asked how she managed to keep her sense of identity intact while constantly reinventing herself, Priyanka didn’t pretend to have all the answers.
“I don’t know if I did,” she laughed. “I don’t claim to know everything. I’m still figuring things out.”
She explained that growing in a different culture and audience meant slips were natural. The real task was picking herself back up each time.
“You have to forgive yourself,” she said. “Dust off the mistakes and move forward. Some days it’s easy, and some days it isn’t. And that’s okay.”
People who keep her grounded
Behind the glitz of red carpets and global fame, Priyanka credits her peace of mind to her small but strong support system. For her, it’s not about having a crowd around, but having the right people.
“What keeps me grounded is surrounding myself with loved ones,” she said. “Not many, just the ones who truly care, who are your champions. They give you confidence to grow and try new things.”
Her new project
Even as she continues to explore new roles globally, Priyanka is also helping tell meaningful stories. Through her production house, Purple Pebble Pictures, she has backed ‘Born Hungry’, a documentary made with filmmaker Barry Avrich’s Melbar Entertainment Group.
The film follows the emotional journey of Sash Simpson, a boy abandoned on the streets of India who was adopted by a Canadian family and later became a celebrated chef. The documentary is all set to stream on JioHotstar.
