Two acclaimed Indian films are set to make their mark at the International Film Festival of India 2025 (IFFI) in Goa this year, with Uttera Singh’s directorial debut Pinch gearing up for its Asia premiere after a warmly received world premiere at the Tribeca Festival, and the Marathi short documentary Where The Heart Is securing an official selection in the prestigious Indian Panorama section following festival stops in Kolkata and Jagran.
Directed by and starring Uttera Singh, Pinch is a dark comedic drama set during the Navratri festival. The film explores secrets, societal dynamics, and shifting power structures within an Indian apartment complex. The story follows Maitri, an aspiring travel vlogger grappling with career frustrations, family tensions, and unresolved grief, whose life unravels after an unsettling encounter with a trusted neighbor.

“Film festivals play such an important role in the journey of independent filmmaking as they give stories like ours a platform to reach people and be discovered. I’m truly glad that IFFI is showcasing Pinch, because bringing this film to audiences in India, where its world and characters belong, means so much to me,” Uttera said.
Where The Heart Is, a documentary, had its international premiere last month at the International Film Festival of South Asia (IFFSA) in Toronto. It is written and directed by Ulka Mayur. The documentary follows Umesh Garate’s annual journey from Mumbai to his ancestral village for the Ganapati festival, capturing the warmth of reunion and the shifting realities of migration. Through the Garate family’s homecoming, the film reflects on belonging, memory, and the quiet transformation of rural homes.
“It’s heartening to see the film generating such positive buzz on the festival circuit. Our premiere in Toronto was truly special, and the response in India has been just as encouraging. I am truly honoured that the film will be screened at IFFI now and looking forward to people watching it there,” the director Ulka Mayur said.
