Netflix is bringing together some of the most exciting South Asian talents for its upcoming comedy film ‘Best of the Best’. Joining the project is comedian and actor Hasan Minhaj, who also co-wrote the film.
Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, whom many fans still lovingly call “Devi” from ‘Never Have I Ever’, and Priyanka Kedia of ‘Everything To Me’ fame are all ready to headline the project.

At the helm of this dance-fueled comedy is Lena Khan, known for directing ‘Flora & Ulysses’ as well as several episodes of ‘Never Have I Ever’. So, in a way, this project feels like a reunion for Maitreyi and Lena, but with a brand-new twist: Bollywood dance competitions.
Maitreyi shared her excitement on Instagram, writing, “my body is sore but my heart is full.”
The story centers around Maya and Anjali, two lifelong best friends who join their college’s Bollywood Fusion dance team. But what starts as a fun way to bond soon spirals into a high-stakes journey when they realize that competing at the national level is not for the faint of heart.
The film promises to capture the chaos, pressure, and joy of the South Asian college dance circuit, where friendship is tested and personal growth happens.
The project brings together some familiar names behind the scenes as well. Hasan Minhaj and Prashanth Venkataramanujam co-wrote the script. Minhaj is also producing the film under his banner 186K Films alongside his longtime collaborator Venkataramanujam.
Jonathan Eirich is producing for Rideback, with Ryan Halprin serving as executive producer.
For Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, this marks another major step in her post-‘Never Have I Ever’ career. She’s already voiced characters in ‘Turning Red’ and ‘Big Mouth’ and will next be seen in ‘Freakier Friday’ alongside Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis.
Priyanka Kedia, meanwhile, is building her resume with projects like ‘Everything to Me’, sharing screen space with stars such as Victoria Pedretti, Judy Greer, and Utkarsh Ambudkar.
As for Hasan Minhaj, fans know him for his sharp comedy on ‘Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj’, a show that earned him an Emmy, a Peabody, and a devoted following. Time Magazine even named him one of the 100 most influential people in the world back in 2019.
