Nandinee Kashyap, Assamese actress, arrested after fatal hit-and-run case

Popular Assamese actress Nandinee Kashyap has been arrested by Guwahati City Police after a hit-and-run accident that tragically took the life of a 21-year-old youth named Samiul Haque.

Samiul, an engineering student, was also working temporarily with the Guwahati Smart City project. The incident happened late at night on July 25 in the Dakshingaon area of Kahilipara, a quiet locality in the city.

According to the police, Samiul was struck by a car reportedly belonging to Nandinee Kashyap. After the accident, he was rushed to a private hospital in Guwahati, where he battled for his life but passed away on the evening of July 30.

Following the incident, a case was filed at Dispur Police Station. At first, the charges were bailable. However, after Samiul’s death, the police pushed for more serious, non-bailable charges.

The court agreed, and Kashyap was formally arrested.

She was presented before a local court in Guwahati on Wednesday. The court has sent her to police custody for two days for further investigation.

Speaking to the media, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Jayanta Sarathi Borah, confirmed the arrest. He explained, “We had initially registered the case with bailable sections. But after the young man died, we requested the court to add non-bailable charges.”

The police are now focusing on collecting more evidence and understanding the full details of the incident. They are checking CCTV footage and speaking to eyewitnesses. The vehicle involved is also being examined closely.

As for Nandinee Kashyap, the actress has not released any public statement yet.
