Mouni Roy, a well-known face in Indian television and films, recently opened up about her journey in the industry. And, it’s not all glitz and glamour.

In a chat with News18, the actress shared how she has faced the challenge of being typecast throughout her career. But instead of letting it bring her down, Mouni says she’s moved past it, and is focused on doing her best, no matter what role comes her way.

From her early days on ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’, people had strong opinions. “They said I was just the girl next door, and couldn’t pull off glamorous roles,” Mouni Roy recalled. But then, when she showed her glamorous side on dance reality shows, the same people said she was ‘too’ glamorous. And when she played the very traditional character Sati, critics suddenly said she was “too Indian.”

It didn’t stop there. After ‘Naagin’ became a hit, she was labeled as someone who could only do fantasy or mythological shows. But through all of this, Mouni has learned to let the comments roll off her back. “It really doesn’t bother me anymore,” she said confidently.

What matters to her now is putting in the effort. Whether she’s playing a glam diva or the girl next door, Mouni wants her audience to see how much heart she brings to the screen. “If you can see that I’m giving 100% to every role, and it connects with you, that’s what matters most to me,” she shared.

Even with years of experience behind her, Mouni is still hungry for more. She says she’s always on the lookout for new scripts and wants to work with all kinds of filmmakers. “I’m still very ambitious,” she admitted. “There’s so much more I want to do.”

Currently, Mouni is starring in the suspenseful drama ‘Salakaar’. The show is streaming on JioHotstar and also features Naveen Kasturia, Asrar Khan, Janhavi Hardas, Mukesh Rishi, and Kuldeep Sareen.

But that’s not all. Mouni has also signed on for a big upcoming film titled ‘Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’, directed by none other than David Dhawan. The film has a star-studded cast including Varun Dhawan, Pooja Hegde, and Mrunal Thakur. While it’s still in production, the movie is going to hit theatres in 2026.
