Woody Allen x Donald Trump: Imagine sitting on a movie set with the President of the United States taking direction from a legendary filmmaker. That’s exactly what Woody Allen says he could do, and he isn’t joking.
In a candid chat on Bill Maher’s “Club Random” podcast, the four-time Oscar winner revealed he would love to direct Donald Trump again, even though the former businessman is now the country’s top leader.

Allen’s connection with Trump goes way back. He directed the future president in his 1998 film ‘Celebrity’, where Trump made a cameo as himself.
“I’m one of the few people who can say he directed Trump,” Allen recalled. “He was a pleasure to work with and a very good actor. He was very polite, hit his mark, did everything correctly, and had a real flair for show business.”
In the film, Trump plays a brief but memorable role. Interviewed by a celebrity reporter about his real estate deals, he quips, “Well, I’m working on buying St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Maybe doing a little rip-down job and putting up a very, very tall and beautiful building.”
To be clear, Woody Allen doesn’t share views of Donald Trump. The filmmaker openly admitted he voted for Kamala Harris in the 2024 election and disagrees with Trump on “99%” of issues.
“I disagree with many, almost all, not all, but almost all of his politics, of his policies,” Allen explained. “I can only judge what I know from directing him in film. And he was pleasant to work with, very professional, very polite to everyone.”
However, Allen still sees Trump as a natural performer. “As an actor, he was very good. He had a charismatic quality when stepping in front of the camera,” Allen said.
