Disney and Pixar’s ‘Toy Story 5’ has passed $1 billion worldwide. It now ranks as the highest-grossing movie of 2026 so far.
The film has earned $448 million domestically. It has made $573 million internationally. That brings the global total to $1.022 billion.

‘Toy Story 5’ is the third movie this year to cross the billion-dollar mark. It follows ‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’, which finished with $1.001 billion, and ‘Michael,’ which also reached $1.001 billion. ‘Toy Story 5’ has now surpassed both.

This is the third ‘Toy Story’ film to cross $1 billion. ‘Toy Story 3’ hit the mark in 2010. ‘Toy Story 4’ did the same in 2019, finishing with $1.07 billion. No other animated franchise has produced three separate billion-dollar films.
‘Toy Story 5’ reached the milestone in its sixth weekend of release. It is expected to soon pass ‘Toy Story 4’ and become the highest-grossing film in the franchise.
The movie opened with $160 million domestically from 4,425 theaters in North America. That was the biggest domestic debut of the year at the time, beating ‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie,’ which opened with $131.7 million. Globally, ‘Toy Story 5’ debuted with roughly $312 million, the biggest opening weekend ever for an animated film.
‘Toy Story 5’ deals with a theme that mirrors real life. In the film, Bonnie’s toys face competition from Lilypad, a frog shaped electronic tablet, for her attention. The plot centers on Jessie and the challenge toys face in a world full of screens.
The film stars Tom Hanks as Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear, Joan Cusack as Jessie and Greta Lee as Lilypad. Andrew Stanton directed the movie.
This year is shaping up to be the strongest for billion-dollar films since before the pandemic. In 2019, nine movies crossed $1 billion, including ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ ‘The Lion King,’ ‘Aladdin,’ ‘Joker,’ ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ and ‘Captain Marvel.’
In 2020, theater closures during COVID meant no film reached that mark. The numbers slowly recovered after that. There was one billion-dollar film in 2021, ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home.’ There were three in 2022: ‘Avatar: The Way of Water,’ ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ and ‘Jurassic World Dominion.’
2023 saw two, ‘Barbie’ and ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie.’ 2024 had three: ‘Inside Out 2,’ ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ and ‘Moana 2.’ Last year, 2025, also had three: ‘Zootopia 2,’ ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ and ‘Lilo & Stitch.’
‘Toy Story 5’ likely won’t hold its top spot for long. ‘The Odyssey’ has earned $639.6 million after just two weekends in theaters. It is on track to become the fourth film this year to cross $1 billion.
‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ opens July 31. It follows 2021’s ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home,’ which became one of the biggest box office hits in recent memory. Given that history, expectations are high for the new film’s earnings as well.
This marks Pixar’s first film to cross $1 billion since ‘Inside Out 2’ in 2024, which finished with about $1.7 billion worldwide. ‘Toy Story 5’ is now the sixth highest-grossing Pixar movie of all time, trailing ‘Inside Out 2,’ ‘Incredibles 2’ at $1.24 billion, ‘Toy Story 4’ at $1.07 billion, ‘Toy Story 3’ at $1.06 billion, and ‘Finding Dory’ at $1.029 billion.
