Emmy-winning actor and director Timothy Busfield has an arrest warrant issued against him for alleged child sexual abuse. Known for shows like ‘The West Wing’ and ‘Thirtysomething’, the 68-year-old actor now faces serious criminal charges.

The allegations against Timothy Busfield

Authorities in New Mexico say Busfield had an inappropriate contact with a child on the set of the TV series ‘The Cleaning Lady’, which he both directed and acted in. According to a criminal complaint filed by an Albuquerque Police Department investigator, the alleged victim first reported Busfield inappropriately touching them at age 7 and again at age 8.

The incidents are said to have taken place between November 2022 and spring 2024, and were reported to Child Protective Services by the child’s mother. The arrest warrant, signed by a judge, lists two counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor.

The child, identified only by initials in court documents, reportedly suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder and anxiety. A social worker documented that the child had nightmares about Busfield and was scared to tell anyone at the time, fearing the director would be angry.

On-set abuse claims rock ‘The Cleaning Lady’

‘The Cleaning Lady’, which aired for four seasons on Fox and wrapped in 2025, starred Elodie Yung as a Cambodian doctor who becomes entangled with organized crime while trying to save her son. The series was a Warner Bros. production. They reportedly conducted their own internal investigation but could not independently verify the abuse allegations.

The complaint suggests that the child felt intimidated because Busfield was the director, which delayed reporting the alleged incidents.

Busfield’s career spans decades, with roles in ‘Field of Dreams’, ‘Thirtysomething’, and ‘The West Wing’. He has also earned accolades behind the camera as a director.

Melissa Gilbert speaks out before the arrest warrant

Adding a strange twist to the timing, Busfield’s wife, Melissa Gilbert, spoke about child abuse on social media just weeks before the arrest warrant surfaced. On November 15, Gilbert shared a throwback photo and reflected on her own experiences as a child actress on ‘Little House on the Prairie’.

In her post, Gilbert highlighted the troubling age gap between her 15-year-old self and her on-screen love interest, Dean Butler, noting how shocking it looks in retrospect.

“I WAS A CHILD. I WAS FIFTEEN,” she wrote, reflecting on the protective adults around her at the time.
