Even decades after first taking on the role of John Rambo, Sylvester Stallone has never let go of the idea of returning to the legendary action hero. In a recent interview, Stallone revealed that he has been imagining a ‘Rambo’ prequel, but with a modern twist: using artificial intelligence to de-age the character.
“I think people thought I was crazy,” Stallone admitted to ‘Variety’. “But AI is now smart enough to show Rambo in Saigon at 18 years old, using the same image. It isn’t such a big leap.”

The actor explained that playing Rambo is no easy task for anyone. “It’s very, very hard. Someone may do an amazing job, but they have to overcome this big hurdle because everyone loves the original,” Stallone said.
The timing of comments from Sylvester Stallone is interesting, as a Rambo prequel is already reportedly in the works. Noah Centineo is set to play the younger version of the iconic character.
Back in 2022, Stallone told ‘The Hollywood Reporter’ that he envisioned the prequel almost like a documentary, showing Rambo’s early life. “He’s this outgoing, football-captain type,” Stallone said. “Then you see why he becomes Rambo. What they want now is a modern-day story where I pass the torch. That’s getting close.”
While the Rambo prequel is gaining attention, it’s not Stallone’s only upcoming project. Peter Farrelly is producing a new film called ‘I Play Rocky’, which will explore the making of the original ‘Rocky’ film, with Anthony Ippolito in the lead role.
Outside the big screen, Stallone is also sharing more of his personal journey. His memoir, ‘The Steps’, is ready for release on May 5, 2026.
On television, Stallone recently appeared in ‘Tulsa King’ Season 3, directed by Taylor Sheridan.
