In the world of movies, we often watch heroes on screen. But last week in Singapore, Cynthia Erivo proved that bravery is sometimes real.
It happened in a split second at the ‘Wicked: For Good’ premiere. Fans were cheering, lights were flashing, and Ariana Grande was greeting the crowd with her usual warm smile. Suddenly, a man jumped over a barrier and rushed toward her.

And before anyone could fully understand what was happening, Cynthia Erivo turned sharply, moved toward Ariana Grande, and shielded her. The moment was caught on video and it spread across the internet instantly.
A few days later, during a special screening of ‘Wicked’ in Los Angeles, Erivo finally spoke about the frightening moment. With Ariana seated beside her, looking emotional, Erivo talked openly about how much the cast has been through recently.
“We have come through some stuff,” she said honestly. “I mean… even this last week. We’ve really had to deal with a lot.”
Her words were real. And in that room, it was clear how deeply the two actresses have bonded. Erivo said the movie didn’t just give them roles to play. It gave them a sisterhood.
“This movie allowed us to grow as people, as friends, as artists,” she shared.
Meanwhile, another cast member, Marissa Bode, who plays Nessarose Thropp, also spoke out. She posted a series of TikTok videos addressing the fan who caused the chaos. Her tone was sharp and honest.
“Did you get your views? Did you get your likes?” she asked the man, who reportedly has a pattern of interrupting public events. “Guess what else you did? You made somebody feel incredibly unsafe.”
Bode went on to say something many people felt but hadn’t said out loud:
“No one, especially women, should be expected to stay calm or be polite when they’re violated. Expecting that makes you strange.”
