Beloved actress and singer Beth Peters, known for her role as Mrs. Whitaker on the iconic soap opera ‘General Hospital’, has passed away at the age of 92 in central Florida following a brief illness, as reported by Variety.

Peters endeared herself to audiences in the early 1980s with her portrayal of the maternal Mrs. Whitaker, who served up heartfelt wisdom from her farmhouse kitchen in Beecher’s Corners. Her character played a pivotal role in the storyline of Laura Spencer, portrayed by Genie Francis, as Laura navigated the complexities of young love with Luke Spencer, played by Anthony Geary.

Beginning her journey in the entertainment world as a young talent in coastal New Jersey, Peters made her Broadway debut in 1955 in ‘Inherit the Wind’. She showcased her versatility by taking on roles such as Mrs. Brady before transitioning to regional theater, gracing stages across the country from the Sacramento Music Circus to the Fiesta Dinner Playhouse.

Beyond her memorable stint on ‘General Hospital’, Peters made notable appearances on television shows like ‘Mr. Belvedere’, ‘Quantum Leap’, and ‘The Waltons’. She also left her mark on the big screen with roles in films like ‘Where Love Has Gone’ and ‘Back to School’.

Peters is survived by her son Sean Williams, step-daughters Barbara Davison and Monica Lange, along with numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Jack Danon, who shared her passion for acting.

Throughout her illustrious career, Peters was a dedicated member of the entertainment community, belonging to prestigious organizations such as the Actor’s Equity Association, Screen Actors Guild, and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists.
