Rockstar Games says “more time needed”
Rockstar shared a short note on its official social media pages confirming the new delay.
According to the company, the team needs extra months to complete the final touches and make sure the game meets its own high standards.
A long list of delays
This is now the second official postponement for GTA 6.
– Original release window: Fall 2025
– First new date: May 2026
– Updated release date: November 19, 2026
The studio explained that delaying the game now will avoid even bigger problems later. It says these extra months will help avoid bugs, glitches, rushed development issues.
GTA 6: A game more than a decade in the making
GTA 6 has been in development for more than ten years.
Its predecessor ‘Grand Theft Auto V’ came out in 2013. It has become one of the biggest games in history selling over 220 million copies.
The first trailer for GTA 6 released in December 2023 broke multiple viewing records online proving just how massive the hype is.
Next-gen only, PC will wait
Rockstar confirmed that the game is still being built for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Just like previous GTA releases, the PC version is likely to arrive later, though no timeframe has been shared yet.
Despite the delay, Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two Interactive, has not changed its financial projections showing that the launch is still expected to be strong.

Delays are not new for Rockstar Games
Rockstar has a long history of delaying its biggest projects. And the results usually justify the wait.
‘Red Dead Redemption 2’ was pushed back by a year. But it ended up becoming one of the most acclaimed games of its generation.
Similarly ‘GTA IV’ arrived five years after its predecessor.
The studio is known for prioritising quality. And, analysts believe the new GTA 6 delay could even help boost year-end sales in 2026.
Fans split on social media
The online community is busy reacting to the latest update. Some players are frustrated saying the wait has become too long. Others feel the delay is worth it if the final product is more polished and stable at launch.
Rockstar also reminded fans that its action-adventure titles especially the ‘Grand Theft Auto’ series require huge development efforts. The company’s other successful franchises including ‘Red Dead’, ‘Midnight Club’, ‘Max Payne’, and ‘Manhunt’ also show how carefully it builds each world.
