Akshay Kumar-starrer Gold emerged as the actor’s highest opener with a massive number of fans flocking the theaters. On Independence day, the patriotic vibes of the sports drama managed to draw the viewers and helped the makers minting over Rs 25 crore on the first day. This is the third best opening figures for a movie in 2018.

Akshay Kumar’s Gold and John Abraham’s Satyameva Jayate locked horns as they shared the release date. Both films did a remarkable business at the Box office, but Gold did better.

Trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh shared the statistics of the films, he took to Twitter and wrote,  “The BIG HOLIDAY [#IndependenceDay] results in BIG NUMBERS at the BO… Both, #Gold and #SatyamevaJayate have TERRIFIC Day 1… Both, Akshay and John record their HIGHEST *Day 1* biz… The *combined* total is approx Rs 45 cr [+/-], which is HUMONGOUS… Yesss, BO is on (fire).”

In another tweet, he unveiled the earning on the opening day, according to which Gold kick-started by doing an extraordinary business and minted Rs 25.25 crore. “#Gold has an EXTRAORDINARY Day 1… Takes a FAB START at plexes across major centres… Wed ₹ 25.25 cr. India biz,” the tweet read.

The Reema Kagti directorial, Gold has acquired the third position among the highest earners of  Bollywood in 2018.

The story of the movie shows Akshay Kumar playing a man who brings together a men’s hockey team to achieve the dream of winning the Olympics, despite all the challenges faced and how they won their first-ever gold medal. It is an inspiring tale of how a team brought pride and respect to its country.

India won its first Gold medal as an independent nation at the Olympics on the 12th of August in 1948.

Starring Akshay Kumar, Mouni Roy, Kunal Kapoor, Amit Sadh, Vineet Singh and Sunny Kaushal, Gold was released on 15 August.
