Siddhant Chaturvedi may be known today for films like Gully Boy, but the start of his journey was far from smooth.
The actor recently spoke about a casting rejection that stayed with him for years. And it had nothing to do with his acting skills.
He says he was told that “curly hair doesn’t make heroes.”

When looks became the reason
This happened soon after Siddhant left his job as a chartered accountant to try his luck in films. He had been shortlisted for a major project and had spent months attending workshops and preparing for the role.

After his screen test, the producer rejected him. When Siddhant asked for feedback, he was told that people with curly hair don’t become heroes.
The comment shocked him. What hurt more was that it wasn’t about performance, it was about appearance.
Trying to fit in
In an effort to match what he thought the industry wanted, Siddhant straightened his curly hair before another audition.
But that didn’t help either.

This time, he says he was told his hair had become “too straight.” The reason changed, but the rejection remained.
He admitted that he kept wondering what was the real reason for rejection.
The mixed responses left him confused and disappointed.
The emotional impact
Siddhant shared that the repeated setbacks affected him deeply. At one point, he went home and shaved his head.
He also said the comments about his hair hurt him personally because his mother loved his curly hair.
That detail, he admitted, stayed with him.

Reel and real life connect
Interestingly, in his upcoming film Do Deewane Seher, Siddhant plays a character who faces rejection in an arranged marriage due to a stutter.
When asked whether he had faced similar rejection in real life, the actor said yes, and that the experience shaped him.
Looking back, he says those early days were tough, but they forced him to develop a thicker skin.
