Cardi B has walked out of a Los Angeles courtroom this week after a civil jury cleared her of all charges in a headline-making lawsuit.
The case, which dates back to 2018, accused Cardi B of attacking a security guard named Emani Ellis outside an obstetrician’s office. Ellis had claimed that Cardi, who was secretly four months pregnant at the time, cut her face with a sharp fingernail and even spat on her during a heated argument.

For this, Ellis demanded a whopping $24 million in damages.
But after weeks of testimony, dramatic moments inside the courtroom, and plenty of viral social media clips, the jury took just about an hour to reach a decision: Cardi B was not guilty of assault, battery, negligence, false imprisonment, or emotional distress.
About the incident
The incident happened in Beverly Hills in 2018. At the time, Cardi B was visiting her doctor for a private appointment. Her pregnancy was not yet public knowledge, so the clinic had shut down for the day to protect her privacy.
Things turned tense when she encountered security guard Emani Ellis. According to Cardi B’s testimony, Ellis not only refused to give her space but also spoke on the phone about the confidential pregnancy appointment and appeared to be recording the rapper on her personal phone.
That’s when tempers flared. Cardi admitted she shouted a profanity and told Ellis to get out of her face. Both women exchanged angry words. But while Ellis insisted the rapper cut her cheek with a long, three-inch fingernail and spat on her, Cardi firmly denied ever laying a hand on her.
“I never touched her. I never spat on her. I just wanted her to give me space,” Cardi told the court.
Two key witnesses helped Cardi’s case: her obstetrician and his receptionist, Tierra Malcolm. Both confirmed that Cardi was upset but insisted Ellis was the aggressor in the confrontation.
Malcolm went further, testifying that Ellis was swinging her arms wildly and nearly hit her. In fact, Malcolm ended up with a small cut on her own head while trying to separate the two women. According to her, Cardi was only defending her privacy and never struck Ellis.
The trial, held in Alhambra near Los Angeles, quickly became a spectacle. Each day, Cardi B arrived in court in different wigs and dramatic outfits.
