Swara’s message of support
Addressing Abhijeet, Swara wrote, “Thank you for fighting for the future of all of our children.”
She also praised Sonam Wangchuk for continuing his fast, writing, “The indefatigable Sonam Wangchuk sir is fighting for your children’s future. All my solidarity and gratitude.”
Why the protest is taking place
The Cockroach Janta Party has been staging a protest at Jantar Mantar demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The organisation has alleged irregularities in the NEET examination and is calling for accountability.
Sonam Wangchuk joined the protest on June 28. Since then, he has been on an indefinite hunger strike as part of the movement. The organisation has also announced a march to Parliament, which is scheduled to take place on July 20.
Actors appeal to end the hunger strike
On Monday, several well-known personalities, including actors Naseeruddin Shah and Ratna Pathak Shah, appealed to the Cockroach Janta Party to bring Wangchuk’s indefinite fast to an end.
In their statement, they urged the group to think about the larger struggle ahead. A part of the appeal said, “We request you to please consider ending this hunger strike immediately in the interests of the longer and more difficult struggle ahead. This battle is a marathon, not a sprint, and we need you, your strength and leadership in the days to come.”
