Becoming a parent is a life-changing moment, and for actress Richa Chadha, it wasn’t just joy she felt, it was fear when she had a daughter.
In a candid chat with comedian and talk show host Lily Singh, Richa spoke honestly about the emotional rollercoaster she experienced after becoming a mother. She revealed that her first thought after having her daughter was, “Oh my God, is my life over?”

Richa said the fear wasn’t about sleepless nights or diaper duties. It was much bigger than that. “There’s climate change, there’s a genocide happening somewhere, and the world is full of problems. Is this really the right time to bring a child into this world?” she asked herself.

For someone who has always been fiercely independent, Richa admitted that the idea of being fully responsible for another human being felt overwhelming at first. She explained how the first six months of a child’s life are especially intense because the mother becomes the baby’s main source of food and care.
“That’s a huge commitment,” she said.
Half-joking but half-serious, Richa also mentioned a thought that crossed her mind. “I was like, we live in India. Do I need to buy a gun to protect my daughter?” she laughed. But with time, she let go of the panic and decided to focus on raising her child to be brave. “I thought, no, we’ll raise her to be strong like me,” she added with a smile.
Richa and her husband, actor Ali Fazal, became parents last year. On July 16, 2024, the couple welcomed their baby girl. They shared the news through a joint statement, saying, “We are tickled pink with joy to announce the arrival of a healthy baby girl on 16.07.24! Our families are overjoyed, and we thank our well-wishers for their love and blessings!”
The couple has named their baby Zuneyra Ida Fazal. However, Richa Chadha and Ali have decided to keep their daughter away from the limelight for now.
