‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’, helmed by Aditya Dhar, smashed Rs 1000 crore barrier on its third Sunday, making history as first Bollywood film to achieve this feat. But success has its critics. A section of viewers have labelled the film as propaganda, a claim that hasn’t stopped audiences from flocking to cinemas.
Enter Ravi Kishan, the actor-turned-politician, who has stepped in with a fiery defence. He slammed the criticism and urged fans to support the blockbuster, praising it for “reviving the industry and bringing out facts in cinematic brilliance.”

“Calling it propaganda is unfair”
Speaking to Hindustan Times, Ravi Kishan didn’t hold back. “Calling it a propaganda film is very wrong! Actors from the South supported it openly, everyone should do that. A new trend has started of calling films propaganda, ek naya kabootar pakad liye hain log!” he said.
Ravi also compared the Dhurandhar franchise to the classic ‘Sholay’, highlighting its larger-than-life impact.
According to him, the film’s storytelling draws heavily from real events turning news and incidents into cinematic drama that audiences can enjoy.
Boosting an industry on life support
The actor stressed that film’s success isn’t just about entertainment. It’s about survival for an industry struggling to stay afloat. “Bahut haalat kharab thi industry ki. Bhojpuri industry has almost shut down! This has come as a blessing. Lakhs of people earn their livelihood through cinema,” he said.
He believes films like Dhurandhar can also teach audiences about society and history. “It’s important that cinema presents what has and is happening in society. In fact, we need to correct our history as well, through research, and show those torn pages to the people. That truth needs to be brought in front of people.”
Ravi Kishan’s career thoughts
Ever candid, Ravi opened up about his own Bollywood dreams. “I know someone somewhere must be writing a Dhurandhar for me. What’s in fate will come to me; this was not in my account,” he said.
He has no regrets about missing out on ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’, and is thankful for opportunities like working with Karan Johar in Naagzilla.
If given a chance in Dhurandhar, Ravi revealed, he would have taken any role. Yet, he admitted his dream part would have been Hazma, played by Ranveer Singh.
