The world of Indian entertainment is mourning the loss of actor Satish Shah. The veteran performer best remembered for his effortless comedy and memorable characters on television and film passed away in Mumbai.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid a heartfelt tribute to the late actor on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “Deeply saddened by the passing of Shri Satish Shah Ji. He will be remembered as a true legend of Indian entertainment. His effortless humour and iconic performances brought laughter into countless lives. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti.”

Among the most moving tributes came from actor Rajesh Kumar, who played Rosesh in the iconic sitcom ‘Sarabhai vs Sarabhai’. Rajesh, visibly shaken, shared on Instagram, “This is the worst hour for me… I still cannot process that Satish ji is no more. It feels like I have lost my father. A man full of life and humour, he challenged everything, made his name, and left his mark as an actor. This is a huge loss to the industry and to us — the Sarabhai family. Let’s pray for his soul.”

Satish Shah’s contribution to Indian television and cinema is immense. From his unforgettable roles in cult shows like ‘Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi’ and ‘Sarabhai vs Sarabhai’ to films such as ‘Main Hoon Na’, ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’, and ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho’, his versatility as an actor was admired by all generations.

Confirming the sad news, PD Hinduja Hospital & Medical Research Centre issued an official statement: “We are deeply saddened by the passing of veteran actor Mr. Satish Shah. Earlier today, the hospital received an emergency call regarding Mr. Shah’s health. An ambulance with a medical team was immediately dispatched to his residence, where he was found unresponsive. CPR was started in the ambulance and continued at the hospital. Despite the best efforts of our medical team, Mr. Shah could not be revived.”

The actor’s last rites will be performed at Pawan Hans Cremation Ground, Vile Parle (West), Mumbai, at 12 pm on October 26.
