Popular television and film actor Alok Nath, who was accused of rape by screenwriter Vinta Nanda, has been granted anticipatory bail on Saturday. The 62-year-old actor’s bail plea to avoid arrest was denied earlier at the Dindoshi Sessions Court.

Vinta Nanda shared her ordeal on social media amid the #MeToo movement that took the Hindi film industry by storm. She called out Alok Nath and accused him of raping her 19 years ago. Though Nanda did not name Nath in her social media post, she referred to him as the actor who is known as the “most Sanskari person” in the field of acting.

“I can remember more liquor being poured into my mouth and I remember being violated endlessly. When I woke up the next afternoon, I was in pain. I hadn’t just been raped, I was taken to my own house and had been brutalised. I couldn’t get up from my bed. I told some of my friends but everybody advised me to forget about it and move on,” her post read.

After sharing her experience of harassment on social media, she registered a case against the actor at the Oshiwara police station.

The #MeToo has gained momentum in India with women calling out comedians, journalists, authors, actors, and filmmakers.

The movement has resulted in the fall of Bollywood stalwarts such as Nana Patekar, Sajid Khan, Subhash Kapoor, Vikas Bahl, Subhash Ghai, Anu Malik, and Rajat Kapoor.
