Since its debut 11 years ago, the franchise has won hearts for its gripping stories, strong female protagonist, and portrayal of real-world social issues.

Rani Mukerji reprises her role as Shivani Shivaji Roy, a fearless cop who always puts justice above everything else. In her previous statements about the film, Rani revealed that the story is “dark, deadly, and brutal.”

The first Mardaani, released in 2014 and directed by Pradeep Sarkar, tackled the grim issue of human trafficking. Its success led to Mardaani 2 in 2019, directed by Gopi Puthran, which followed the story of a ruthless psychopath.

Both films were praised for their tightly-written scripts, intense performances, and depiction of Rani’s character as a strong woman confronting dangerous criminals.
