The 2010s have been more of a battle of supremacy at the box office with films shattering records and marking their place among some of the biggest grossing films ever made in India.

In the last five years or so, Bollywood has witnessed enormous success with films like Dhoom 3, Baahubali, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, PK, Dangal and Tiger Zinda Hai, all of which have raised the bar in terms of both commercial success and critical acclaim.

The beginning was Rs 100-crore club, which was described as the certified label of a film being a blockbuster. However, after 2013 the Rs 100-crore mark became a little too easy to cross and the films aimed for Rs 200-crore and Rs 300-crore mark.

With 100s of films released every year, it’s a revealing fact that only few films get to score big at the big office and even fewer films get to label themselves as a blockbuster.

Taking a look back from the beginnings of 2010, there have been numerous films that crossed Rs 100-crore and Rs 200-crore mark in India. But, there are only a selected few which crossed the Rs 300-crore mark in India and carved a place for themselves in the history of Indian cinema by setting numerous records.

There are a total of six films which have grossed Rs 300 crore or more at the box office in India; PK, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Sultan, Dangal, Tiger Zinda Hai and Padmaavat.

Come 2018, the list of this elite club seems to increase as the year is stacked up with some much-awaited films. Let’s take a look;

Race 3

Race 3

Well, why not? Salman Khan is the only actor to have three Rs 300-crore films and it wouldn’t surprise anyone if he becomes the only actor with four. Considering Salman has a huge loyal fan base and the film is making its way on Eid, Race 3 has a guaranteed shot at a phenomenal run. The film is one of the few films which can actually gross Rs 300 crore in India. Well, let’s see if Bhai continues his winning streak at the box office with his magic.

2.0

Race 3

Marked as one of the most anticipated and expensive films ever made in India. 2.0 is attracting all eyeballs for numerous reasons. Be it Rajinikanth’s comeback as Chitti or Akshay Kumar essaying a villainous role after more than a decade. The makers of 2.0 are promoting the film on an international level and are leaving no stone unturned to get the job done. 2.0 lands on number two in the list of films expected to gross Rs 300 crore in India.

Thugs of Hindostan

Salman and Rajinikanth have star power and their fans play a huge part in the success of their films. Same is true for Aamir Khan, who is now considered among World’s biggest superstar. Aamir has his own fan base and target audience, which makes him another admired actor of Bollywood. The range of his films is always appreciated by classes and masses and that is why his films never disappoint. Thugs of Hindostan is a very ambitious project, which is made on a high budget and fans are eagerly waiting for this film to arrive. It’ll be interesting to see whether this film will give Aamir his third Rs 300 crore film or maybe his first Rs 400 crore film!

Simmba

Race 3

After the mammoth success of Padmaavat, everything changed for one actor — Ranveer Singh. Ranveer has become a mega star after his performance in the film, which fetched him numerous awards and honours, and even increased his fan base among all age groups. Many refer Ranveer as the show stealer in the film and the credit for the film’s success goes to Ranveer. Now, all eyes are on his next, Simmba opposite Sara Ali Khan, which will be directed by Rohit Shetty. Simmba is the dark horse this year as the film’s genre is something which is familiar to all but Ranveer’s never-before-seen avatar is the surprise package in the film. Whether this film grosses Rs 300 crore or not is something we will get to know in late 2018 but the buzz among fans surely indicate good signs.
