Voter turnout shows strong participation

The second phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections saw a strong voter turnout during the first half of polling hours. By 1 pm, the overall polling percentage across 142 constituencies stood at 61.11 percent.

This figure was slightly lower than the first phase of voting held on April 23, when 62.18 percent voting was recorded during the same time period across 152 constituencies.

District-wise data showed varied levels of voting across regions. East Burdwan recorded the highest turnout at 66.80 percent. Hooghly followed with 64.57 percent. Nadia registered 61.41 percent, while Howrah recorded 60.68 percent.

In Kolkata Uttar, the turnout stood at 60.18 percent. North 24 Parganas saw 59.20 percent voting, South 24 Parganas recorded 58.58 percent, and Kolkata Dakshin reported the lowest among these districts at 57.73 percent.

When compared to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the current polling pace is significantly higher. In those national elections, only 45.10 percent voting was recorded during the same time window in the seven-phase process.
