As Me Too movement has hit the entertainment industry, Telugu superstar Allu Arjun has spoken on the issue and vouched for the Telugu film industry. On Sunday, at the pre-release of Taxiwala, a horror comedy starring Vijay Deverakonda and Priyanka Jawalkar, the actor called Tollywood the “cleanest” industry.

“I’m telling you, among all industries, the Telugu film industry is the cleanest. You can ask female actors who are working here and they will vouch for this,” the Arya actor said at the event.

“Telugu cinema treats its women with maximum respect,” he added.

Speaking about the female lead of Taxiwala, Priyanka Jawalkar, a Maharashtrian newcomer to the Telugu film industry, Arjun said, “I enquired about Priyanka. I asked her whether she was a Telugu girl. I was told that she is a Marathi girl but grew up in Anantapur. I feel that any person who likes Telugu culture is one of us. She is a Telugu girl.”

“I invite each and every girl to come to our industry,” he added.

Earlier, this year, Telugu actress Sri Reddy staged a protest alleging sexual exploitation in the film industry.

On 7 March, Reddy stripped in the form of protest outside the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce in Hyderabad.
