Sunday morning brought heartbreaking news for the Odia film industry. The music suddenly stopped. The songs that once filled theatres, weddings, and radio stations across Odisha now carry a deep silence. Popular singer and music composer Abhijit Majumdar passed away at the age of 54.
The composer breathed his last at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, where he had been undergoing long and complicated treatment. The news was first reported by local media.

Abhijit Majumdar cause of death
Abhijit Majumdar had been fighting serious health issues for a long time. He was initially admitted to a private hospital in Cuttack after doctors found alarming problems, including low sodium levels and other complications.
As his condition worsened, he was shifted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar in early September 2025. Doctors placed him in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and put him on ventilator support. Reports soon confirmed that he had slipped into coma.
Despite continuous medical attention, his health remained unstable. On Saturday night, his condition deteriorated further. He was later taken off the ventilator, moved within the ICU, and passed away on Sunday.
The official cause of death has not yet been announced by doctors. However reports suggest that the composer was suffering from multiple health problems.
Reports revealed that Abhijit Majumdar had been dealing with chronic liver disease along with hypertension and hypothyroidism. These conditions severely affected his body over time making recovery difficult.
Doctors from different departments at AIIMS were involved in his treatment.

Born on September 11, 1971, in Odisha, Abhijit Majumdar began his musical journey in the Sambalpuri music industry. His talent soon caught attention. He then transitioned into Ollywood where he became one of the most respected music composers of his generation.
Over his career, he composed more than 700 songs across Odia films, albums, Sambalpuri music.
Abhijit Majumdar’s music became the soul of many popular films. Some of his most loved works include ‘Love Story’, ‘Sister Sridevi’, ‘Golmaal Love’, ‘Mr. Majnu’ and more.
Abhijit Majumdar is survived by his wife, Ranjita Majumdar.
