Quoting one of the witnesses, Mumbai Mirror reports that the man started assaulting the woman when the train started from Thane.

“I being 90 per cent disabled could not do much to help as there was a threat to my life if I intervened,” Samir Zaveri, the witness, told Mumbai Mirror.

Zaveri added that though he asked the security person, who was in the women’s section of the divided compartment, to pull the emergency alarm but he did not respond. Reports add that the securityperson informed the Railway Protection Force at Dadar station.

The incident has sent shockwaves in Mumbai where local trains serve as the lifeline of the people.

It was not immediately known if the man and the woman were known to each other or were just co-passengers.
