The Madhya Pradesh State Assembly was adjourned for the day on Tuesday amidst continuous din in the House, as the main opposition Congress was furious over non-acceptance of its adjournment motion on the issue of the recent suicide by State Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Rampal Singh’s daughter-in-law, who had secretly married the minister’s son in an Arya Samaj temple at Bhopal.

When the House met in the morning, the Congress MLAs demanded action against the minister’s son, Girijesh Singh. The Congress MLAs also demanded discussions under the adjournment motion on the entire issue.

Amid heated debates and continuous pandemonium, the entire question hour was washed out.

Budgetary demands of departments of six ministers were also passed by voice vote without any discussions amid the continuous hullabaloo.

During the ongoing din, the Speaker had to adjourn the house thrice for short durations.

Finally, the House was adjourned till Wednesday, as the impasse over the issue could not be settled.

The leader of opposition Ajay Singh urged the Speaker to safeguard the spirit of democracy.

He later alleged that the voice of the Opposition was not being heard, so it was futile to remain in the House.

Singh led the Congress MLAs in a walkout of the House after their demand of discussions through an adjournment motion was not met.

PWD Minister Rampal Singh’s daughter-in-law, Preeti had committed suicide in her house in the Raisen district a few days ago. Singh’s son, Girijesh, had married Preeti Raghuvanshi secretly in an Arya Samaj Temple in Bhopal last year.

The deceased’s family members produced a marriage certificate of the Arya Samaj Temple, as proof of the wedding.
