UP: Ambedkar statue vandalised in Ballia

Few days after the 127th birth anniversary of Dalit icon and father of the Indian Constitution Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, another of his statue was found damaged at a village in Ballia of Uttar Pradesh.

According to the Inspector of Rasra Police Station, Jagdish Chandra Yadav, The incident took place at around 2.00 am.

One of the hands of the statue was found damaged in Sardaspur village, the case has been registered and efforts are on to nab the culprits behind the act, police said.

Over half-a-dozen incidents of Ambedkar’s statues being vandalised in various places of the state have been reported over the last one month.

In the wake of statue vandalism, the Uttar Pradesh government directed the state police to ensure the security of the sculptors of famous figures in the state.

Policemen have been deployed at the spot.
