Train catches fire, no casualties

Two coaches of Visakhapatnam-H Nizamuddin 22416 AC Super Fast Express train caught fire near Birla Nagar railway station in Gwalior district of Madhya Pradesh on Monday afternoon. A rescue team and fire brigade rushed to the spot. No injuries were reported.

“Fire was reported from the B6 and B7 coaches. All passengers have been evacuated safely”, Gourav Krishna Bansal Chief Public Relations Officer Northern Central Railways said.

“A high-tension wire fell on the train resulting in the blaze starting from B6 and B7 bogies. The train was stopped and the passengers travelling in B-6 and B-7 coaches were moved to other coaches by the guard,” Bansal said.

A few minutes later the train was stopped and all the passengers evacuated.

The bogies on fire were detached from the train and the train continued towards Gwalior. Three fire engines were rushed to the spot which managed to douse the fire. Some passengers suffered minor injuries after they jumped from the train as soon as it stopped.

As per information, 37 trainee deputy collectors were traveling in these coaches. The train was going from Hazrat Nizamuddin station to Vishakhapatnam station in Andhra Pradesh.

Train services were disrupted on the section and several trains stopped at various stations.
