In a significant crackdown on illegal immigration, the Delhi Police detained three Nigerian nationals who were residing in India without valid visa documents, officials said on Saturday.

Police said that the arrests were made in the Sagarpur and Palam areas following a targeted operation based on specific intelligence inputs.

“The accused have been identified as Eloumuno Gabriel (29), a resident of Amambra; Chinedu Paulinus (33) from Asaba; and Sunusi Sani (26) from Lagos, all hailing from the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” said Amit Goel, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South West).

According to the officer, the trio had entered India on tourist and business visas but overstayed without legal extension or proper documentation.

With a lead received regarding the foreign nationals moving suspiciously in the Sagarpur and Palam Village areas, a police team swiftly conducted checks.

During questioning, the arrested individuals initially claimed to have valid visas deposited with the Nigerian High Commission.

However, subsequent verification with immigration authorities and the embassy confirmed that their visas had expired long ago, and the individuals had remained in India illegally, DCP Goel added.

“The accused reportedly took up housekeeping and other informal jobs across Delhi, Noida, and Gurgaon, eventually settling near Palam Village in Sector-1, Dwarka,” the officer said.

Following their detention, documents, including copies of their Nigerian passports and national IDs, were recovered from their mobile phones.

After completing all formalities, the South West District Police initiated deportation proceedings in coordination with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), New Delhi.
