Yogendra Yadav, president of Swaraj Abhiyan Party, presented the interim report of the minimum support price (MSP) Satyagraha campaign at agriculture markets on Saturday.
Acuusing the Narendra Modi government of “Kisan ki loot” (loot of farmers), Yadav said farmers are forced to sell their crops at prices much lower than MSP declared by the government. Red gram (toor) was sold at Rs 3,885 a quintal against the MSP of Rs 6,000 (Union government’s MSP of Rs 5,450 plus State government bonus of Rs 550), groundnut at Rs 3,821 against the MSP of Rs 4,450 and Bengal gram (Chana) at Rs 3,360 against the MSP of Rs 4,400.
“By going around different states we found that most of the farmers are selling their crops at prices much lower than the MSP.

As per our estimation, farmers in the country would have to incur a loss of around Rs 32,000 crore in Kharif season and another Rs 6,000 crore in Rabi season thanks to the improper implementation of MSP under price support scheme,” he added.
Yadav said, “On behalf of farmers we demand that they be able to sell their entire crop at the MSP rate, procurement should start on time and sufficient number of procurement centres should be opened, procurement should happen inside the APMC Mandis, not in private mills, fund transfer order (FTO) should be generated within 24 hours of procurement, registration should be done on the spot and special provision should be made for tenants/sharecroppers to allow them to sell the yield.”
Yadav declared that the next Satyagraha would be held in Uttarakhand on Sunday, before moving to Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh on 27-30 March.
