After nearly a decade of dues, the Siliguri Regulated Market Committee (RMC) on Wednesday cleared pending rent amounting to Rs 1,29,58,742, outstanding since 2016. The last payment had been made in 2015.
Officials said the payment was made in response to a notice served by the Land Revenue Officer of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation area in May 2025, directing the RMC to clear the arrears immediately.

The RMC, located on 50.07 acres at Mallaguri, pays an annual land rent of Rs 10,11,414. Over 10 years, the total outstanding reached Rs 1,01,14,140, while the land and land reforms department also added Rs 28,44,602 as interest on delayed payments, bringing the total to over Rs 1.29 crore.
According to sources, the land and land reforms department has intensified efforts to recover long-pending rents from various organisations occupying government land across the state.
