Two persons identified as Pravindra and Praveen were injured in a late-evening shootout at a bar on the busy MG Road in Gurugram on Sunday when 12-18 men armed with sticks and guns entered the S Bar in Grand Mall, police said on Monday.

Ravinder Kumar, PRO, Gurgaon police, said: “The group of men were said to be in an inebriated state. When the bar owner Deepak, along with the duo, Pravindra and Praveen tried to calm the men, they began beating them up. During the violence Pravindra and Praveen received gunshot injuries.”

Kumar said the bar owner Deepak informed the police about the incident but by the time they reached the accused had fled. The injured are undergoing treatment at Artemis Hospital. The police have registered a case under Sections 147,148 (Rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 307 (attempt to murder) of IPC and the Arms Act in Sector-29 police station and also arrested two accused identified as Mintu and Amit, said Kumar.

He said, “We have CCTV footage in which we are also trying to identify others involved in this incident. During investigation it has come to light that the shootout was a result of personal rivalry between two groups.”

MG Road is well known for night clubs and bars. Most people come here at the weekends. On 20 June, a 35-year-old woman was abducted late at night by three men from MG Road and thrown out of a car in Greater Noida after being allegedly gangraped in a moving car for hours.
