Paradip Port becomes country’s largest cargo handling port
The port nudged past Deendayal Port, Kandla to achieve the new record, said the officials on Monday.
St Vincent and the Granadines flagged ship, MV Thermetor which was scheduled to sail on Thursday after having unloaded its cargo at Paradip Port was stopped on orders of the civil judge senior division of Kujang.
The Kujang court ordered that the vessel should not sail out and asked its owner to appear before the court on 30 April.
It is learnt that the court order came as a petition had been filed by a Singapore based agency Valency International Trading Pvt Ltd (VIT) which alleged that the manager of Latona Maritime CO, Greece had defaulted payment and misappropriated a huge amount of money.

MV Thermetor was run by the Latona Maritime Co. MV Thermetor, carrying 51,350 metric tonnes of rock phosphate of Paradeep Phosphate Ltd had arrived on Paradip port last Monday to unload the cargo.
On getting this information, VIT filed a petition against Latona Maritime Co and MV Themetor near civil judge senior division of Kujang on 16 April 2018 seeking justice.
The court in an interim order restrained the vessel from moving out of Paradip Port. The authority of PPL has sought the intervention of court to consider their case by allowing this vessel to sail as it would lead to traffic congestion of berth.
“Entry of other ships to captive berth has been affacted because of no space to accommodate these ships on said berth to unload cargo in Paradip” said a PPL official.
