A trekker belonging to Kolkata in West Bengal died while six others were rescued by the district administration after they got stranded in Manirang area  of Sangla valley of Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh.

Seven trekkers were on their way to Sangla valley in Kinnaur from Rohru in Shimla district and were stranded at Manirang area.

“Of the 7-member team, one trekker Rupam Ghosh, a native of Madhyagram, Kolkata, was stranded in a very critical situation at a base camp of Brua area while trekking to Sangla. Another trekker identified as Jevaasheesh Mehtu, a native of Kolkata, was declared dead at the base camp,” a district administration official said.

The ground rescue team of police department was sent for rescue operations early in the morning and one Quick Response Team (QRT) of Himachal Home Guards moved at 8.30 a.m. to rescue these trekkers.

The critically injured trekker was immediately airlifted by an Indian Air Force chopper to a hospital in Sangla valley. Five other trekkers and the body of the deceased trekker are being taken by the rescue team to Sangla.

As per later reports, another group of 13 trekkers from Rupin valley were stranded in Sangla area. Of these 8 have safely reached Sangla with the help of the rescue team. Another 5 missing trekkers have also been rescued with the help of ITBP jawans and local police.
