In a move to reduce road accidents in Delhi, and encourage the habit of wearing helmets among citizens, Rekha Gupta formally launched the “Helmet Wearing Consequences” campaign from Delhi’s iconic Connaught Place.
Speaking on the occasion, she said the objective of the campaign is not only to highlight the importance of wearing helmets but also to make people aware about how negligence can endanger their lives, as well as that of their loved ones.
Gupta shared that along with strict enforcement of road safety rules, the Delhi government is making constant efforts to spread awareness. She said, “Our life is not only our own, but also of our family, society, and nation. Therefore, every step should be taken with the awareness of its impact on society’s welfare.”
Gupta mentioned that following traffic rules, maintaining cleanliness, and fulfilling our duties with sincerity are the true forms of patriotism.
Emphasising the importance of road safety, the CM described wearing a helmet and following traffic rules as an important expression of patriotism.
She said accidents happen suddenly, but wearing a helmet and fastening its strap is under an individual’s control, and this small habit can save lives.
On the eve of Independence Day, Gupta called upon everyone to take a pledge to refrain from any wrongdoing, follow traffic rules, and work honestly in the interest of society and the nation.
On this occasion, Delhi’s Transport Minister Dr. Pankaj Singh said safety on the road is first and foremost in a person’s own hands. “Wearing helmet is not only compliance with the law, but also the greatest proof of responsibility towards your life, your family, and your loved ones,” he added.
He asserted that even a small act of negligence can lead to a lifetime of regret, while a single act of caution can save a life.
According to the minister, Delhi Government’s aim is not just to enforce rules, but to develop awareness and habitual road safety practices among citizens,” he said.
