Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has said that the statement made by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee regarding the freedom of girls, following the rape incident in Durgapur, is not only condemnable but also reflects the height of political decadence.
Gupta said that Banerjee’s remarks expose the failed administration and morally hollow leadership of the Trinamool Congress government, which, instead of ensuring justice for the rape victim, shamelessly questions the freedom and rights of daughters.

Sharpening her attack, the Delhi Chief Minister alleged that under Mamata Banerjee’s rule, criminals protected by those in power roam free, while the voices of victims demanding justice are crushed.
Gupta further stated that West Bengal continues to remain among the top states in the country in terms of heinous crimes against women.
She added that it is the same Bengal where goddesses like Durga and Kali are worshipped, but today, daughters in the same land are allegedly forced to live under the shadow of fear and injustice.
Meanwhile, BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj said it is unfortunate that women feel so unsafe in West Bengal, and described Banerjee’s remark—that girls should not go out at night—as “shocking.”
Swaraj urged the Chief Minister to ensure that the victim receives justice in the case.
